The purpose of the Boy Scouts of
America--incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by
Congress in 1916--is to provide an educational program for
boys and young adults to build character, to train in the
responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop
personal fitness. Chartered Organizations: Community-based
organizations receive national charters to use the Scouting
program as a part of their own youth work. These groups, which
have goals compatible with those of the BSA, include
religious, educational, civic, fraternal, business, and labor
organizations; governmental bodies; corporations; professional
associations; and citizens' groups

Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons is a non-profit
organization that serves more than 15,000 members in North
Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. We are chartered by
Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), the worlds’ only leadership
development organization for girls in the world. We believe
that every girl has the potential for success and Girl
Scouting helps girls learn positive values, build
self-confidence and learn real-world leadership skills. Girl
Scouts—Dakota Horizons council area includes cities, towns and
communities covering more than 164,000 square miles and
includes girls on 13 Indian Reservations and 3 Air Force
Bases. We have divided our council jurisdiction into four (4)
geographic areas that house seven (7) offices to serve our
members and volunteers. Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons is
headquartered in Sioux Falls, SD. At Girl Scouts—Dakota
Horizons, we are developing tomorrow’s leaders through
girl-driven programs. Girls create a lifetime of memories and
participate in one-of-a-kind programs designed to build girls
of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a

In Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons girls and adults discover the
fun, friendship and power of girls and adults together. Girl
Scouts—Dakota Horizons is open to all girls grades K-12 and
adult members 18+ in the Council’s jurisdiction which includes
all of North Dakota, South Dakota, 13 Minnesota Counties and
one county in Iowa. Fall registrations are held in many
schools but you can become a Girl Scout any time throughout
the year.
What is today’s Girl Scouts about? It’s about YOU! Many girls
choose to be in a traditional Girl Scout troop, but we have so
many other ways you can participate. Do you love summer camp?
Are you passionate about photography, cooking or fashion
design? Will your busy schedule only allow you attend a few
Girl Scout events a year? How about traveling around your
